Get to Know Dr. Rachell Velasco
Dr. Velasco is a passionate and dedicated dentist who values community outreach and giving back. Drawing inspiration from her upbringing in a family of humanitarians, she is committed to making a positive impact through her profession. As a dentist, Dr. Velasco has the opportunity to improve people's oral health, which is closely linked to their overall health and well-being. By enhancing patients' smiles and addressing oral health issues, she can help them feel more confident and improve their quality of life. Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Velasco's parents, a doctor and a nurse, inspired her to pursue a career in healthcare. She began studying pre-med at Florida State University with the intention of following in their footsteps. However, her sister, who was a dentist in Venezuela, encouraged her to explore the dental field. Dr. Velasco landed a job as a dental assistant in Tallahassee during her final year of college and immediately fell in love with the work. She saw how the dental field allowed for the intersection of healthcare, artistic ability, creativity, and connection in one fulfilling career. This realization led her to pursue dentistry as her lifelong career, which she is passionate about and finds fulfilling.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Velasco's commitment to education and community outreach is evident in her achievements. After earning two undergraduate degrees in Biology and Exercise Science, she obtained her Master of Science in Microbiology and her dental doctorate from the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University.
To further training, she completed a general practice residency at Louisiana State University and is also certified in BOTOX, dermal fillers, and Invisalign. Dr. Velasco has participated in local and international community outreach programs. She has traveled to Nicaragua and Haiti to provide important dental supplies, educate, and care for those in need. Locally, she has volunteered with both Georgia Missions of Mercy and Louisiana Missions of Mercy. She is a member of several professional organizations, including:

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Velasco's passion for connecting with others extends beyond her professional life. She has a wonderful support system that includes her husband, Jim, and their lovable Border Collie, Rusty. She is also close with her mother, sister, brother, and two nephews, cherishing the time she spends with them.
Outside of work, Dr. Velasco enjoys exploring her creative side by taking care of her vibrant collection of plants and painting. She also loves to travel and attend social gatherings with family and friends, hosting game nights that are not to be missed. Growing up in New Orleans, she has a special appreciation for local festivals and markets, and Mardi Gras will always hold a special place in her heart. Her diverse interests and active social life reflect her outgoing and compassionate personality.
